A leading presence

Pets Of Older Persons (POOPS) now have a greater presence – a branded gazebo and other promotional materials to help assist POOPS in the hope to grow their community, all thanks to the support from Busselton Water.

POOPS is a volunteer, not-for-profit organisation that is all about keeping people and pets together. Providing a pet care service typically for those over 65 years of age, palliative care patients of any age and people with disabilities. Volunteers dedicate their time to a range of fee-free pet services including dog walking, transportation (to vets, boarding facilities or groomers), administering medication, or whatever is needed for the pet and is mutually agreed between the volunteer and pet owner.

Busselton Coordinator Cathy Gibson expressed her appreciation to Busselton Water for their contribution and support for the POOPS community.

“The branded gazebo and table covers will enable POOPS Busselton to have a greater presence when attending events – we aim to grow the number of clients that we serve and engage a vibrant community of volunteers to assist the Busselton region,” said Ms Gibson.

“Busselton now has 46 clients, with over 123 active volunteers ranging in ages from 18-82,” Ms Gibson added. “Every visit acts as a welfare check, if the client doesn’t answer the door or is unwell when we arrive, we are able to alert their nominated emergency contact or the relevant health service”.

Busselton Water Board Chair, Helen Shervington, said that the local water provider was pleased to support such a great initiative within the community.

“The aim to keep people and their pets together whilst at the same time providing a vital service to ensure the safety of each client is highly valuable to the Busselton community.”

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or you or someone you know would benefit from the services POOPS provide, please phone Cathy Gibson on 0417 935 434 or visit the POOPS website www.poopswa.org.au for more information.
