Community grants on offer

Busselton Water has launched its Community Partnership Program for a third consecutive year, calling for Busselton community organisations, volunteer groups, schools and sporting clubs who need a helping hand to apply!

The grassroots program provides support for local projects – particularly groups and initiatives with a focus on water quality and efficiency, environmental sustainability, education, innovation and leadership.

CEO Chris Elliott said the program is a fantastic way for Busselton Water to give back to the community in which it operates.

“In the three years this program has been running, we are so proud to have supported such a diverse group of organisations – each of which offer a tremendous amount of value to the Busselton community,” Mr Elliott said,

“Fifteen different groups and projects have enjoyed support under this terrific program – from sporting clubs, to youth organisations, local schools, and those that engage with the elderly and support people with a disability,” he added.

“I strongly encourage all local organisations to have a look at the guidelines and consider applying for funding before 30 June.”

In 2017, seven deserving organisations shared more than $10,000 in funding. One of these groups is Busselton Swimming Club whose equipment is now in safe hands thanks to Busselton Water.

The Club’s new lockable equipment cage securely stores all materials used by the clubs squads including pool buoys, kickboards, snorkels, fins and paddles.  The cage will also be used as a planning tool with whiteboards attached to one side to help coaches display their training instructions for the swimmers.

Busselton Swimming Club President, Rod Simmonds said the Club is very appreciative of the support provided by Busselton Water.

“We have more than 70 kids involved in swimming and many of them come before and after school. The new equipment cage means the children can leave their swimming equipment at the pool each day rather than have to take it to and from school. It also provides a safe place to store club equipment,” Rod said.
